CONTRACT NEWS

We have finished contract negotiations for the new 2011 - 2014 contract.  The negotiating committee is extremely please with the results.  While there were consessions on both sides, thats what negotiating is all about.  The final proposal is a 3 year deal that includes reasonable COLAs and maintains the merit steps.  While there were changes to the health care cafeteria options in an effort to control rising costs for everyone, the overall cost percentage for members remains unchanged.  Members declined the addition of 3 Corporal positions that were offered contingent on everyone returning to a rotating shift schedule.

The contract went before the voters on May 10, 2011 with the unanimous support of the Hanover Select Board and passed without question by a voice vote.  We are extremely grateful to the voter of Hanover for their continued loyalty and support.

SPECIAL ELECTION

Elections were held on September 22nd and Comm. Officer Fred Cummings was elected to replace 4 term Union Local President Randy Wagoner who retired to take a job in Washington, DC at FEMA Headquarters.  The term will run from Sept. 24, 2011 through June 30, 2014.

Sec/Treas David Saturley asked to step down due to numerous other commitments which left the final year of his term unfilled.  A special election was held on May 12th and Comm. Officer Lisa Camarra was elected to fill the final year (2011 to 2012) when the next full term election will be held.  We all thank David for his service and also thank Lisa for stepping in to fill the slot.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

We made our 2010 donation to the Listen community dinners and are extremely proud to continue to support this worthy cause.  We are once again funding 1 meal a month for needy members of our community.  While this may not seem like a lot, the cost for even just this one meal a month is $900.00 and is a big help.  We rounded our community food support of to an even $1000.00 with a donation to the 95.3 food drive for the Haven.

Members approved funding at recent meetings to support Officer Kuehlwein for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center Prouty Ride andf Officer Mark Butler's Youth Tae Kwon Do program.  Funds were also approved to support NEPBA members from the Lebanon Local participating in the Law Enforcement Memorial Bike Ride and the National Strongman Competition.  A $ 100.00 donation was also approved for Sgt. Brad Sargent in support of his upcoming 3 day cancer walk, $ 250.00 for Hanover Project Graduation and               $ 100.00 to sponsor a hole for the 2011 Hanover Fire Union Golf Tourny.

NEPBA Local 27 also donated $1000.00 to support the Police Department's purchase of "Cold Fire" fire extinguishers for each of the Department's cruisers.
