Besides the benefit of standing with your co-workers for proper working conditions, fair compensation and benefits and equal treatment, members receive the support of the local organization.

We are "Local 27" of the New England Police Benevolent Association IUPA Local 9000 -- AFL-CIO.

NEPBA offers a full range of labor services and member benefits.

LEGAL STAFF

Police officers deserve the most skillful representation available. NEPBA provides its members with free legal services on all job related matters, including worker's compensation, dismissals, suspensions, grievances, and representation in federal and district courts. On arbitration, the International and the Local each pay 25% of the cost and the employer pays 50%.

Peter J. Perroni, ESQ.

Peter Perroni graduated first in his class from the New England School of Law in Boston where he received received the Amos L. Taylor Award for academic excellence, and gave the valedictory address at the graduation of his class. During law school, Mr. Perroni received American Jurisprudence Book Awards in Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law. Following law school, Peter served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Caroline Glassman of the Maine Supreme Court. His practice areas include Union-Side Labor Law, Civil and Appellate Litigation and Real Estate. Mr. Perroni has successfully tried civil jury cases in Federal and State Courts and regularly represents clients regarding labor issues pending before State Agencies. His reported cases include Bennett ex rel. Estate of Bennett v. F.B.I., 278 F.Supp.2d 104 (D.Mass. 2003) and Costa v. Commissioner of Correction, 56 Mass.App.Ct. 42 (2002). Mr. Perroni is a member of the faculty at the New England School of Law where he teaches Legal Research and Writing. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. Mr. Perroni received his undergraduate degree from Colby College where he was a member of the Football and Lacrosse teams. He enjoys cooking, racquetball, golf and skiing. Mr. Perroni was raised and lives in southern New Hampshire.

LEGISLATIVE SPECIALISTS (Lobbyists)

One of the most critical areas for all working Americans is the legislative process throughout the country, Unions have always had a great impact on legislation. Over the years, Unions drafted and gained passage of legislation for a 40-hour workweek, the minimum wage, prevailing wages, worker's compensation, unemployment benefits, health and safety regulations, etc. NEPBA provides professional lobbyists to support or oppose legislation affecting police officers.

REPRESENTATION

Each NEPBA Local President is automatically appointed as a member on the NEPBA Executive Council. This direct, hands on representation provides a immediate input and a direct line of communication from the members to the executive board.

NEGOTIATORS

Contracts providing substantial salary increases and excellent benefits are vital in enhancing the quality of life among union members. NEPBA negotiators are expert at their craft and tough at the bargaining table. Their research into the needs of police officers is precise and their knowledge of the duties is extensive. NEPBA negotiators have compiled a phenomenal history of outstanding contracts.

STEWARD/UNION TRAINING

Stewards are the lifeline of all successful unions. They are the union's eyes and ears at the work-site, insuring management doesn't violate the contract. They also assist members in preparing grievances, recruit new members and provide information to fellow employees concerning key issues. Stewards are the direct line between the membership and the International office. The NEPBA conducts steward training seminars to guarantee the membership receives the best representation available at the work-site. NEPBA is Affiliated with AFL-CIO

AUTONOMY

Each NEPBA Local is autonomous. The Local members elect their own officers, draft their own contracts and establish their own agenda.
