Charitable and Community Service

NEPBA Local 27 is committed to being involved and serving our community. In addition to the dedication that our members show while they are on the job, we also use the Union Local to help others on our off time. Some examples are listed below.

On Saturday May 15, 2010 (National Law Enforcement Memorial Day) NEPBA Local 27 sponsored a "Blue Mass" recognizing Police Officers, Fire Fighters, EMS, Dispatch and Military Personnel for the dedication and service to their communities. The event was hosted by Sacred Heart Parish in Lebanon, NH. Father William offered a very fitting and moving service to a full church.

Hanover Police LT. Patrick O'Neill graced the congregation with a beautiful solo of "My Country Tis of Thee". We were very honored to have Sharon Davis-McKay, wife of Franconia PD Cpl. Bruce McKay who was brutally murdered in the line of duty on May 11, 2007, join us for the mass. Attendees were given C.O.P.S. blue ribbons to display on their cars for the month of May as they left the Church.

**Thanks to Hanover and Lebanon PD'S and Hanover and Hartford, VT FD's for their participation. Special thanks also go to Judy Stevens (Hanover FD and a Parish member) for her beautiful job decorating the church.

Congratulations to the 2010 Winner of the NEPBA Local 27 - $1000.00 Scholarship
Our Very Own Molly Tallman of Etna, NH

Molly will start the Criminal Justice program at Endicott College this fall. Molly is the daughter of our Records Coordinator & Union Member, Sheryl Tallman and was in kindergarten when Sheryl joined the PD. We have watched Molly grow up and she has always been willing to help the Union, playing basketball for our 2006 fundraiser against the "Court Jesters" and selling candy at the 2008 softball game against "Bill Lee's All Stars" (see pic above). We are all EXTREMELY PROUD of Molly and wish her all the best at college.

Once again this year the Hanover Police Department and NEPBA Local 27 will take part in the Irving Oil "Fueling Dreams" program. On Saturday June 6th Staff and Olympians will pump gas at the "Circle K" on S. Main St. in Hanover and ask for donation to support the Special Olympics. This is a great day that raises both dollars and awareness.

OUTREACH HOUSE
is our ongoing community service project.

The 9 residents and the staff of Outreach House have been adopted by NEPBA Local 27. They provide gracious assisted living for seniors, ladies or gentlemen, in an affordable and attractive setting that enhances independence and supports community involvement. We get called on for Small odd jobs and other "help around the house" and always enjoy time spent with the residents. We enjoy a summer breakfast social and annual Holiday parties as well as visits to play a game of scrabble or just chat on the front porch on a warm summer evening.

NEPBA Local 27 also donates to several charities, and sponsors runners and bicyclists taking part in numerous events raising funds for cancer research and treatment.

We are also proud to have previously supported the Police Unity Tour bike ride from NJ to DC for National Police Week and the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and Museum.
